I'LL TELL YOU TOMORROW, CHERIE
This song was first imagined as a poem (30/12/2022).
Cherie - darling in French.
Written for my partner.
I revised the poem and gave it more structure to use in a song (05/02/2023).
A guitar part I'd written that same week was added, and so was the melody.
Weakest song-so far.
Vision for the song:
Folk, stripped back, horns/wind instruments, Buckley-esque.
Light drum, Jerome Blaze -style production/instrumentation. Lofi sounds.
Next steps:
Complete the structure of the song-include a bridge and another verse
Share with band
Begin recording (main foundational instruments)
Find horn/wind instrument players.
Key Dates:
04/04/2023 Band rehearsal
03/04/2023 Recording all piano tracks on mum's upright
18/04/2023 Drum recording session at Hercules Studios with Wayne Connolly
I could look at you forever
You smile with your eyes when your lips part for your teeth
You slide past my cheek
To grip what little hair I have this week
I can watch the invisible line
Give or take a few unnecessary purple wines
That youthful urgency to be dancifully humble
You waited
And squeezed my hand three times
I'm in love with you
I'll tell you tomorrow, Cherie
Your thumb folds my lip
We mash with intention
I ask you're feeling
It's one way to break the tension
Our youthful urgency to be dancifully humble
I'm in love with you
I'll tell you tomorrow, Cherie

WE LIVE IN A GALLERY
I wrote this song after I'd just had a lovely night drive with (my now partner), but then (someone I was mildly dating) 07/11/2021.
The song started as a simple observation piece of writing-until I became introspective-I questioned ones keenness on me, and kept a wall up in order to not get hurt (again).
As the song continues-and I've continued to adjust it over the years since, it becomes a story of letting go, trusting, then admiring, adoring and step back to acknowledge the lovely things we surround ourselves with.
The first demo of this song was slower, played on a classical guitar and had a mellow energy.
I then decided to make it a rock song, so I did and got my band involved. Robert's Your Mother's Brother.
Vision for the song:
To make it sound as full and bright as it does live and with the band. Think. Sam Fender.
Next steps:
Band run through of song with new verse/chorus (she smiles...) and (we'll stay here longer than we should...).
Have a guitar solo that is rock solid (and interweaves the riff)
Begin recording (very simple instrumentation-rock band stuff)

Hey, it's nice in the car
And hey, I'm not going far
What are you seeing in me
I can't let the same thing happen you see
Hey, come as you are
And hey, we're not going far
I'm holding my breath
Let my air out
I'm holding my breath
Let my air out
We'll stay here longer than we should
She smiles, eyes wide
We live in a gallery
I''ll paint you a picture
The sun rolls in
You like to feel it on your skin
It's a cliche
A desirable screenplay
Hey, it's nice in the car
And hey, I'm not going far
Play me something
Play me something
Play me anything you like
Play me something
Play me something
We'll stay here longer than we should

SIMMER DOWN
Written (23/10/2022)- after a fight with dad about important news I shared about myself.
I wrote this song in one go- and in no longer than 15 mins.
I used his own words "what more attention do you need" "please don't do this to me"
Another song about my daddy issues-unfortunately I think he will always be a muse of mine.
Vision for the song:
As raw as possible (live voice and piano)-overdubbed or live electric guitar. I want the complete vulnerability in my voice, every crack, tremble, etc. to be crystal clear.
Next steps:
See if I can get guitarist to sit in the same room and play whilst I record keys and voice.
Begin recording. Many room mics.

BERRIES
with guitar demo (distant take) (23/10/2022)
I'll be who you want me to be
I'll breathe away the pain
What more attention do you need?
Please don't do this to me
Why won't you
Simmer down
Why won't you
Simmer down
Please can you
Stop the sound
And simmer down
Throw it in my face
Tell me I'm worthless
What if every person I love turns their back on me
You've made it worse
Why would you bring that up
You know that would make him angry
What more attention do you need?
Please don't do this to me
Why won't you
Simmer down
Simmer down
Please can you
Stop the sound
Simmer down
Simmer down
Please can you
Stop the sound
Settle down
And simmer down
Why aren't you proud?
The first version of this song was made on the 22/11/2021.
I actually quite fond of it, and would consider releasing it as is later on as
a low-fi kind of version.
It's about a nice new interest in someone who is also confusing, but
romantic and it's all kind of sexy.
This is a fun song.
Vision for the song:
To create a B section (that goes somewhere completely different-almost cinematic)
Make sure there's enough interest in the song (dynamic changes etc.)
Next steps:
Meet up with keys player, workshop B section.
Record keys
Begin recording rest of song.
Key Dates:

Picked up smoking
I bought you flowers
You called me friend
And so I told you and you told me
This time I won't pretend
Berries and cigarettes
My afternoon date
Berries and cigarettes
I stayed up too late
Gin and lemonade
Seems like an inconveniently distant masquerade
Let me trace you with my thumb
We'll smoke until the rain comes
Then we'll tilt inside
And graze all night
Berries and cigarettes
Berries and cigarettes
Berries and cigarettes
Berries and cigarettes

Wrinkles trace the same lines like sculptured aisles fenced in green
A recollective essence of Buderim sanctuaries
Neon ripened vines tangle rusted copper grids
Spongey chain wire ground
Forth the train line bridge
Feeling poetic and daring
City's overbearing
Forth the train line bridge
Leave me alone
Leave me alone
Don't want to go home
My local daydream
Coloured hideouts branded by pot troubled teens
Witlessly abound with leashless hounds
Neon ripened vines tangle rusted copper grids
Spongey chain wire ground Forth the train line bridge
Feeling poetic and daring
City's overbearing
Forth the train line bridge
Leave me alone
Leave me alone

KIND OF COMPANY
Began writing different versions of this song sometime in October 2021.
This song is all about questioning what I want and questioning who I am.
Feeling excitement towards another person for the first since a bad heartbreak, but feeling in control (mostly).
This song feels like an autumn breeze to me, or the bite of a crisp morning.
Vision for the song:
To feel like completely satisfying breath in, following a grin (that's what I want people to feel).
I feel so good playing this song live, and I want it to have that same magic recorded.
Next steps:
Begin recording.

As it comes to the end of another year
There's still fear that the shear necessity of substance is creeping near
Oh but I'm well
Life is swell
To yearn and to want more than this blunt
Another case of wonder
Touching my conscience
It's nice
A healthy dose of want
It's like listening to a novel
You cryptic analytic library
Illicit, insistent
An intriguing kind of company
I'm back to writing poetry
That one exquisite part of me
Listening to songs I used to drive to
Songs I used to cry to
Redefine them, make them mine again
Replace the protagonist with a beautiful evangelist
Another case of wonder
Touching my conscience
It's nice
A healthy dose of want
It's like listening to a novel
You cryptic analytic library
Illicit, insistent
An intriguing kind of company
Do I miss just being held?
